Since the program began more than 30 years ago, local Lions Clubs have sponsored visits from the Mobile Health Screening Unit in their communities helping to improve the life and health of thousands of our state's citizens.
SC Lions Charitable Services realizes that good health is important. Our Mobile Health Screening Unit (HSU) is on the road serving South Carolina communities by providing free health screenings with a primary focus on screening children in schools.
We provide a variety of preventative health screenings:
- Eyesight (including: Visual Acuity, Glaucoma, and Refractive Measurement)
- Hypertension (Blood Pressure)
- Body Mass Index, Height & Weight
- Cataract Screening
These screenings are not considered complete health examinations. They are only a guide and cannot be used to obtain prescription lenses, hearing aids, or medication. No diagnoses are made on the Unit. If any screening results indicate a potential problem, we encourage the individual to contact health care professionals for additional testing, diagnosis, and treatment.
Local health care professionals, certified technicians, and trained volunteers perform these screenings. Lions Clubs throughout South Carolina schedule and sponsor visits of the Health Screening Unit to schools, festivals, health fairs, community centers, and businesses.
SC Lions Charitable Services and the Lions Clubs of South Carolina have partnered with a network of ophthalmologists, optometrists, audiologists, and hearing aid specialists who are committed to our mission of improving the health and well-being of people across the State. This partnership of health care professionals and volunteers enables us to keep the Mobile Health Screening Unit on the road, serving South Carolinians in need.
All Lions Clubs in South Carolina are eligible to sponsor a visit from the Mobile Health Screening Unit. To find a Lions Club in your community, call toll-free: 1-866-32-LIONS (54667) or 803-796-1304 or send us an email.
